# A lending balance is not a guarantee of immediate withdrawal

A balance shown in a lending product tells you what the account or position records. It does not necessarily tell you how much you can withdraw immediately.

## Find the constraint behind the button

Liquidity means assets available for a transaction. In a lending market, supplied assets may be borrowed by other users. Aave Protocol’s withdrawal guide says withdrawals depend on assets available in the pool that are not currently borrowed.

That is a specific protocol example, not a rule describing every lender. A centralized provider, a lending pool and a vault can have different structures. Read the exact product’s current terms rather than treating “withdraw anytime” as a complete explanation.

## A simple hypothetical balance

Imagine a position displaying 1,000 units while the relevant market currently has only 400 units available for withdrawal. Those invented numbers illustrate why the displayed position and an immediate withdrawal can differ. They are not observed Aave data or an estimate of future liquidity.

Do not infer that the rest will become available at a particular time. Availability can change. A large total pool size is also a different measurement from the amount unborrowed at the moment you need it.

## Collateral adds a separate question

Collateral is an asset pledged to support borrowing. Aave’s guide explains that withdrawing assets used as collateral may require reducing borrowing or adding collateral to keep the position within its rules.

This makes two checks necessary: is the market able to supply the withdrawal, and does your position permit it? Meeting one condition does not automatically meet the other. This guide does not provide borrowing instructions or tell you how much debt to take.

## Read risk statements at the right level

Look for the actual market, network and product you are using. Aave App disclosures describe its App and vault structure, including risks and governance dependencies. Do not substitute those documents for a different product’s terms simply because the names overlap.

“Self-custodial” explains an aspect of control. It does not, by itself, establish that a lending arrangement has no contract risk, market risk, access constraint or possible loss. A code audit is similarly not a guarantee of recovery or repayment.

## Questions before relying on the balance

- What determines the amount available to withdraw now?
- Are the assets being used as collateral?
- Can access be paused or constrained, and under which rules?
- What fees and network costs apply to an exit?
- What official process explains a failed or unavailable withdrawal?

Do not send extra funds to an unsolicited person promising to unlock the position. Verify any genuine requirement through the official product documents and support route.

## Your next action

Find the product’s withdrawal conditions and write down the difference between total position value and currently available assets. If availability is not verifiable, treat it as unknown before planning a payment around it.
